The ‘Kayakalp’ scheme, an initiative taken under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship programme Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, was a litmus test for the state’s district hospitals.

Out of the 34 district hospitals in Rajasthan, only 15 qualified for the race of best district hospital, putting a big question mark on the facilities available at district hospitals at a time when a lot of discussions are being held for improving the healthcare facilities.

Among the 15 qualified hospitals, Rajsamand district hospital was adjudged as the best.

The scores were awarded on parameters like pest and animal control, landscaping and gardening, maintenance of open areas, water conservation, workplace management, sanitation and hygiene, waste management, infection control etc

National Health Mission (NHM) director (state) Navin Jain said that experts inspected 15 district hospitals and declared their rankings.

The basic aim of Kayakalp initiative was to select the three best hospitals in each state to promote cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices. The district hospital bagging the first place will get Rs 50 lakh, and the one bagging second rank will get an award of Rs 20 lakh.
